Research Associate – Power Grid (Market Research)
As the world is switching to new forms of energy, the storage of energy becomes increasingly important. Lux Research tracks the development of energy storage technology and business. We are looking for a Research Associate that can think on a system level in terms of technology and economy and translate those thoughts into models. You could, for example, have a background in electrical engineering, econometrics, engineering management, industrial design, or mathematics. Affinity or experience with policies and regulations in the energy space is a plus.
As a Research Associate you will spend most of your time conducting interviews with technology developers, identifying and analyzing patents, scientific publications, and financial transactions, and drawing on this work to analyze emerging companies and trends. For this position we are looking for someone who can also help develop economic models. You should like to work in a fast-paced environment where you will be required to rapidly switch between a variety of topics and questions. You should enjoy forming firm, fact-based opinions on new technology and regulations, and not be afraid to go against the hype if your analysis tells you to do so.
As a Research Associate for the energy transition team you will be required to develop multiple potential future scenarios to solve the problems associated with intermittently available energy sources and find creative solutions to those problems. Part of your job will be to forewarn clients of viable developments that they have not yet seen.
This position does not involve lab-work; rather it involves building on technical expertise through additional primary and secondary research to identify the best opportunities and biggest risks for clients.
